We used ITA. On connection flights. be prepared to go through security again at the airport in Milan. Because of this, we do not recommend short connection flights. Our bags didn't make it with us back home and were stuck in Milan for a day or two probably because of the short connection. 

Mount Etna is visible from everywhere, it's fun to take a photo of it from different places along the way!
